‘Sleepy Hollow’ season 4: Tom Mison addresses exit of Nicole Beharie

In the weeks that have following the end of the third season of “Sleepy Hollow,” Tom Mison for the most part was one thing and one thing only: Silent. That’s somewhat of a shock, given that he is the face of the series and of course, you’d want to hear from him anytime that are some big changes coming on the show.

Well, we’ve now had a chance to firmly here just what he thinks about the exit, and he did so (per the Realistic Optimist) during the recent London MCM Comic-Con:

“Abbie Mills represented more than just another character in the show … It wasn’t an easy decision for them to make. I know that. The writers, they like writing Abbie Mills. And I like acting with Nicole.”

Mison also discussed briefly some of the criticism from the fans that the show is losing its black lead, and the perception that they have minimized her in favor of a white, male lead:

“When you have a woman of color in the lead role, it’s not just a woman of color in the lead role. It immediately means so much more than that, across the whole of America … There’s a woman of color in a position that not very long ago she wouldn’t have been. It comes to symbolize so much more. So when something like this happens … of course it’s going to mean an awful lot more, consequently.”

While Mison did not get into specifics about what happened behind the scenes, reports that came out at the time of the finale suggested that Beharie wanted to exit the series.
