Will ‘NCIS’ season 14 be just fine? Another take
At this point, longtime “NCIS” fans know the drill: There is no new episode tonight, and there won’t be another one most likely until September. The summer hiatus is a natural part of the TV fabric, and it therefore is something we will continue to endure as long as the show is around.
Now that we’ve said that, it is pretty clear to us that this is no ordinary hiatus. After all, we’re stuck waiting to see how the series functions without Michael Weatherly, who departed as Tony at the end of the finale in May. His absence will be felt, but everyone working on the show does want to see how it progresses moving forward. This includes recent guest star Scottie Thompson (Jeanne), who recently said the following per the Mirror while at MCM London Comic-Con:
“He is such a big part of it – I have no idea, I’ll be curious to see how it goes forward. But you look at how many fans there are for the spin-offs, and how much people love those, and so whatever it is about the structure of this kind of show is really appealing to people.
“So I hope for the sake of NCIS that it continues to have success.”
Thompson also expressed confidence in the rest of the cast, calling them “amazing” and saying that she is looking forward to seeing how things play out from here. We’re optimistic that the ratings will still be solid; we’re sure it will take a hit without Michael, but not necessarily enough of one to sound any alarms.
