‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 4: Clark Gregg teases Coulson’s new situation

Coulson -When the fourth season of “Agents of SHIELD” premieres on ABC this fall, you’re going to have a chance to see a really different landscape for the show than you’ve seen over the course of the series’ run. After all, Phil Coulson’s not strictly in a leadership position anymore! He has a new mission, but the way in which he conducts that (i.e. searching for Daisy) remains up for debate.

In setting up precisely what you can expect to see further to Entertainment Weekly, Clark Gregg at least does a good job laying some of the groundwork:

“He’s not the director anymore, his destiny is not so much in his own hand as it used to be … The person he cares about is on the run and seems to be very sought after by the authorities. It’s very much changing the game for Coulson. Certainly from that teaser of where we’ll be next season, he does not seem to be in good shape.”

We like the idea of Coulson being tested in some new ways, at least so long as he gets to interact with some of the other characters on the show still. We don’t want to see him firmly on an island and on a manhunt. Luckily, that seems unlikely; given what we’ve come to know about some of the other people in the cast at present, the odds seem fairly low that they are going to just isolate him off on an island without giving him a heck of a lot to work with.
