For the past several months, we’ve had a great chance to see the story of “The Originals” morph and expand on The CW; unfortunately, now it seems like things are going to be in stasis for a little while.
There is no new episode of the show airing tonight, which is a further reminder that last week’s installment, which included Klaus and many others being put out of commission for a while, was the season finale. It’s a terrible way to end things off for the impatient, mostly because this is one of the biggest cliffhangers that we’ve ever seen on this show.
What makes this worse is another chilling thing that we do have to remind you of at present: You’re going to be awaiting mostly likely until January, at the earliest, to see what lies ahead. The CW has not announced their midseason schedule yet, but this show was not included on the fall schedule, and that to us is an indication that they are going to try things out in the current configuration for at least a little while.
Hopefully, this time away will help some other people catch up on this show, which has went in a really wide array of crazy / exciting directions since it first premiered. It definitely needs whatever possible ratings bump that it can, given that it was one of The CW’s lowest-rated franchises for most of the season, and it has a lot to overcome still given that it will probably not be the recipient of any spectacular timeslots.
