‘Doctor Who’ season 10: Pearl Mackie to debut as Bill in 2017

Pearl -

You have already been waiting to see the arrival of Pearl Mackie on “Doctor Who” for quite a while, so what’s waiting for at least a few more weeks? When we first heard that we were going to be seeing the character Bill on the show moving forward, we assumed that it was going to be coming starting in the upcoming Christmas Special this year.

However, that appears to not be the case precisely. Speaking in the latest Doctor Who Magazine, executive producer Steven Moffat made it rather clear that you are going to be waiting for a while (think 2017) before you get a chance to see this character. There will be some sort of “guest companion” in the Christmas Special instead.

Meanwhile, Moffat also made it clear that Bill is a character from the present, and Mackie herself had input in what the character wears:

“She’s from now, yeah. I know there are rumours about her being from the 1980s, but she isn’t. She’s just wearing what young people are wearing now. I know that, because Pearl chose her outfit herself.”

One other teaser he handed down is that part of the joy of seeing this character is going to be that unlike many other companions, she is going to ask the questions that many characters would in her situation. Specifically, think along the lines of asking about why The Doctor acts the way that he does, how he is alive, and so on. This should make for a fun twist, and hopefully one that is worth the rather lengthy wait.
