‘Outlander’ season 2, episode 7 reaction: Caitriona Balfe on Claire, Jame’s Scotland return

Faith -To say that Saturday’s new episode of “Outlander” entitled “Faith” was devastating to the Claire Fraser character would be making one of the grossest understatements possible. After all, this was an hour that featured the character losing her baby Faith, and also her making the decision to try and return to Scotland after going through great hardship in France. They did make some strides in the Jacobite cause, but at the same exact time we also had a chance to see some hardships. For one, Jamie Fraser opted to duel Black Jack Randall after what happened to Fergus, and ended up getting arrested to the point that Claire, still mourning the loss of her child, had to sleep with King Louis to free him … plus also have the Comte St. Germain’s blood on her hands. He was a terrible person, but being responsible for death is tough to bear.

Will the two find solace in this new place? There’s no guarantee of anything, but there is hope based on what Caitriona Balfe told TVLine:

“Scotland’s a very healing place for them. That is their home, and that’s why we’ve been fighting so hard in these first seven episodes to change the political landscape of Scotland so that they can go home. Unfortunately, France has proved to be a very disastrous place for them… Jamie says is that the weight of this pain is too much to bear for either of them alone, so they need to be together. We’ll see, going forward, how they heal and how this bond gets stronger. We know from Act 1 [of the season] that maybe things don’t work out completely, but I think you will see the old Claire and Jamie that we’ve come to know from before.”

There is still six more episodes still to come this season, and there is time for healing in there. However, simultaneously we know that there is also some further time for pain. We’ll have to wait and see which way the needle points in the end.
