‘Outlander’ season 2, episode 8 preview: Caitriona Balfe, Sam Heughan, and a change

Claire -

Tonight’s new episode of “Outlander” certainly is representative of an enormous sea change for our characters, and we’re looking more at Claire and Jamie Fraser than anyone else in describing this. After going through such extremes in France, including Claire having to sleep with the King to free Jamie from prison and Claire losing her baby Faith, it appears as though the two could be beginning a journey back to Scotland.

However, there’s no guarantee that they will make it there, and even if they do, who knows what trouble will await them? The thing we’ve come to realize very much with these characters is that peace never surrounds them. The synopsis below does make it clear that the Jacobite story is continuing regardless of where Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan’s characters are, and we are also going to get a chance to see the return of a familiar face:

“Claire and Jamie call upon Jamie’s grandsire, Lord Lovat, in an attempt to elicit support for the Jacobite cause.  However, a visiting Colum MacKenzie has other plans, and Lord Lovat’s manipulative machinations ensure that no matter what, his own interests will be served.”

The most difficult pill for many fans to swallow may just by that we have already now passed the halfway point of this season, which has blown by at a speed that is far more rapid than we would have anticipated going in. We’re especially left to wonder now as a TV show viewer only how this story will wrap up, and when we’re going to get a lengthier tease of Claire in Boston beyond the tiny clip that we had at the beginning of “Faith.”
