‘Supergirl’ season 2 may not have Calista Flockhart as series regular

Cat Grant -

While we knew that “Supergirl” season 2 was coming to The CW long before today’s upfronts, there was a little bit of discussion around them regarding something that we’ve speculated about for the past week or so: Would Calista Flockhart make the move up to Vancouver? She was a series regular throughout the entirety of the first season as Cat Grant, but that was with the show being set in Los Angeles, where she is firmly based. When you look at her resume, there’s no real reason for her to make the move unless she really wants to, and in the end, it could lead to her having a slightly smaller role moving forward.

Speaking (per TheWrap) on a conference call with reports today, network programming head Mark Pedowitz passed along the following message: “We’re happy to have her in whatever capacity is worked out.”

We do think that there will be a great move for Calista to stick around in terms of the story; moving the show to this particular network gives it a chance to tell meatier stories, and with that we presume will come some more interesting material. Things won’t be as procedural, and everyone will get a chance to spread their wings further.

Ultimately, we do think that Cat was in many ways a polarizing character on the show. We liked her for a wide array of different things, but at the same time she was also a character with plenty of challenges. For one, in the early going especially she came across as very brusque and very “The Devil Wears Prada.” It was only over time some of that armor came down.
