‘The Bachelorette’ spotlight: Will firefighter Grant Kemp ignite JoJo Fletcher’s heart?

Grant -For this new edition of “The Bachelorette” spotlight, we’re using a lot of fire puns! Will Grant Kemp climb the ladder to the top of the list of JoJo Fletcher contenders? Will he set her heart ablaze? (Well, hopefully not, since he’ll have to extinguish it. You get our drift.)

We do find Grant an interesting contender this season, and Chris Harrison seems to concur based on what he said in a recent Yahoo! TV post on the subject:

“He’s a firefighter and I am a sucker for firefighters, military, and all that. That’s a good way to go because I think it takes a certain kind of person to serve for a living. He’s a buff and good-looking guy. He just got out of a long-term relationship very recently though. That relationship went down in flames and so the question with him now is ‘Is he ready to get back out there? Is it too soon?’ This happens a lot on the show. People go through something traumatic in their lives and they come on the show in a rip-the-Band-Aid-off move. It can work, but it can go horribly wrong.”

What Harrison says seems to be backed up by social media, since he had photos on his Instagram with an ex from just this past fall. Now, let’s get to the rest of the spotlight.

Name – Grant Kemp

Age – 28

Occupation – Firefighter. It’s certainly a great occupation for this show, but we should also note it’s not the only job we’ve seen him with online. He’s also done some male modeling (like many others this season), and he’s also done some bodybuilding.

Location – San Francisco, California. There are a lot of Californians on the show this season, but at least Grant hails from a different part of the country. Doesn’t that at least amount to something?

Pros – He’s saved a life before, he’s adventurous, and he’s got a look that is super-distinct from the rest of the season. In the midst of a bunch of dudes with longer hair and bears, Grant will stand out. His tattoos also tell stories in their own right.

Cons – There are things to worry about. For one, the guy claims that he once evaded Mexican police on an ATV; also, there’s the recent relationship, and the modeling background that makes you wonder if he’s just trying to get his name out there. He also claims one of his worst date memories is hearing a woman talk about “Harry Potter” for 20 minutes; that’s an automatic strike against you in our book.

Most likely to… Have some sort of fireman calendar moment during a group date.

Final assessment – Grant’s the sort of guy the show will love to have. We think he’ll be probably a little too intense, and that’ll make for good entertainment even if he’s not right for JoJo. We can see him making it to around a two-on-one date, and maybe getting a “Bachelor in Paradise” gig.
