‘Reign’ season 3 spoilers: Mary faces a hard choice in ‘Safe Passage’

The third season of “Reign” ever since its return this spring has focused on a few simple things, with one of the primary ones being simply this: Mary’s attempts to rule in Scotland once more. This has been a difficult journey for her, and on the upcoming March 23 episode entitled “Safe Passage,” we are going to continue to see more of this particular story play out. However, what is a little different about it this time are the circumstances surrounding it.

In many ways, the synopsis speaks for itself in terms of the hard choice Mary is getting close to making:

“Mary (Adelaide Kane) learns from Lola (Anna Popplewell) that she has a chance to get to Scotland safely, but she must act quietly and quickly. When Catherine (Megan Follows) is framed for murder, Mary must decide if she should stay to protect her, which would jeopardize her safe passage to Scotland.”

Is there a “right” choice here for her at all? The reality is that in getting to Scotland, there is potential for her to do good for many people. Yet, at the same exact time, she has to continue to figure out a way in which she can do right by those she cares about now. It’s a double-edged sword, and there is no easy solution to this problem no matter where you turn. Maybe we’ll have some further insight on this episode as it gets closer to airing, but those out there who follow history know already that Mary does eventually make it to Scotland.
