‘The Bachelorette’ premiere date unveiled; see JoJo Fletcher in first poster!

JoJo -We knew that it was only a matter of time before “The Bachelorette” had an official premiere date, and it is precisely the one that everyone out there expected: Monday, May 23 on ABC. Due to “Bachelor in Paradise,” the network has to start this show at around the time of the “Dancing with the Stars” finale in order to ensure that it ends in time for the spin-off to begin its new season.

We’ve also got the first poster for you below (via People Magazine) that features JoJo Fletcher front and center, but we gotta wonder what in the world is the deal with the slogan. Why do we have to reference Ben Higgins here? Yes, we know that he was a popular star of a recent season, but this continues an odd tradition of ABC presenting its female leads to the public by reminding viewers of the guy they were last with. Take, for example, when Andi Dorfman’s season was promoted with references to Juan Pablo Galavis. When was the last time you saw one of the guys promoted with references to the woman who rejected them?

That aside, it’s a fine poster for the show, if not completely predictable given that almost every one of these features a rose in it somewhere. It’s like the format of the show in so many ways. ABC knows what works well for them, and at the end of the day there is almost no motivation whatsoever for them to change things up. If it’s not broke, why fix it? This seems to be the network philosophy.
