‘Supergirl’ season 2: Exec hints further on ‘who’s in the pod?’ mystery

Supergirl -

Sure, there are a few little cliffhangers here and there following the “Supergirl” finale, given that technically Non is still alive seemingly and James Olsen and Kara’s relationship is just getting started.

However, at the same exact time the largest one at the moment is clearly the mystery pod that came down from Krypton in the closing minutes of the finale. This is as effective of a cliffhanger as you’re going to see on this show, if for no other reason than that it didn’t really deprive fans of anything this season, and yet gave us something further to look forward to in the event the show comes back … which we feel like it ultimately will just from the vantage point of buzz.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg made it clear that it is a person in this pod, which is a nice bit of confirmation even if it seemed fairly obvious that this would be the case:

“It’s an important character, and they’ll play an important role in season 2.”

As for who this person could be, the aforementioned site did throw out Superboy as a possibility, and that’d be a way to get around having Superman on the show even further. He’s a character who has been around now for over 60 years, so there’s obviously a ton of history there; however, at the same time we do hope it doesn’t shift the show into being a little too superpowered, since what makes Kara special is that she’s different from the pack.
