‘Britain’s Got Talent’ preview: Will Wayne Woodward be Britain’s next big crooner?
We know that there are some people out there who do complain about singers being a part of “Britain’s Got Talent,” and we imagine that to a certain extent, they have a point. Given that there are so many shows out there on TV that you can see someone come on and sing, there’s a hope and expectation to have something a little bit different brought to the table here.
However, Wayne Woodward is a little bit of a different singer, because he’s not the sort that would really shine on “The X Factor” or “The Voice UK.” Those shows don’t tend to really recognize throwback artists, and Wayne is definitely that. His cover of Frank Sinatra’s “The Way You Look Tonight” is full of charisma, and we get the sense here that he has a really strong voice. Clearly, someone told him to dress like an ordinary guy, since you would have never guessed before the audition that this would be his talent.
We’re assuming that Wayne is easily put through to the next round, and with that, his next challenge becomes clear: Finding a way to ensure that he shows off even more versatility to the judges. He’ll need to probably do a song not by Frank Sinatra to show that he can do a few other things, though we don’t want to see him travel too far from his established lane. Voters in Britain will probably like him, so in this case we’ll just have to see what happens.
