‘Call the Midwife’ season 6: Miranda Hart returning as Chummy starting in Christmas Special

Call the Midwife -

You may have recently heard the news that “Call the Midwife” is filming their upcoming 2016 Christmas Special all the way in South Africa, but that’s not the only incredible news that we got for you today: You’re also going to have a chance to see the return of one of the show’s most-beloved cast members in Miranda Hart! Not only will she be back for this special, but Chummy will be playing a key part in season 6 after sitting out for the majority of the past two seasons.

In a statement, the show’s production house (Neal Street Productions) had the following to say about getting the in-demand actress back for a big arc over the course of the upcoming year:

“We’ve been bursting to share the news Chummy has left the mother and baby unit and is heading back to Poplar for series six! We’re thrilled to be once again featuring Miranda Hart and her fabulous blend of warmth, strength and vulnerability as Chummy gets to grips with the medical and social challenges of the 1960s.”

One of the great things about “Call the Midwife” is that the show was still able to go on strongly even in spite of having people like Hart and Jessica Raine not around, and it has not dropped too much in the ratings. Now that we’ve said that, getting her back should provide that subtle boost to ensure that things stay moving in the right direction throughout the upcoming season. Season 6 proper will likely premiere at some point in early 2017; we don’t have to tell you at this point when the Christmas Special will air.
