NBC’s ‘The Voice’ rankings: Adam Wakefield, Paxton Ingram, Mary Sarah strong on Team Blake Shelton
If there is one team on “The Voice” that constants sends a shiver down the hearts of everyone else in the competition, it’s Team Blake Shelton and for a reason. The man is basically a god of country music, and the majority of the people who vote for this show tend to be country music / Blake fans. That’s why he has won more than any other coach over the years.
The interesting thing about his team this time, though, is that he’s not just doing his typical thing and bringing a team to the live shows that is super-country. There is a diversity of genres here, though based on the rankings below, we do still think his fans will have a preference for the familiar.
If you’re new to our rankings, know that we judge them on this: Performance quality, edit, and past voting history for similar acts.
5. Katie Basden – This is really not a case of Katie doing anything wrong; it is just for us personally, she is the one person on Blake’s team that we have an easier time forgetting about as opposed to some of the other artists. With that being said, she’s the one who probably needs to step it up the most in the playoffs.
4. Joe Maye – Really strong singer, and we actually thought circa the Battle Rounds that he could be a favorite to go far. Our concern here is mostly when it comes to coach connection, given that he was just put on Team Blake. How much investment will there be in him saving the guy if it comes down to it?
3. Paxton Ingram – We’re not sure for us if anything so far has topped Paxton’s “Dancing on My Own” audition (love that slower take on the song), but at the same time we acknowledge that the guy is crazy-talented, and we’d love to see him make it really far just to see Blake do some work with someone more pop-focused.
2. Mary Sarah – She’s been amazing every single step along the way this season, and what is really remarkable to us is that she’s the sort of singer who could cover almost anything and make it sound like something she recorded herself. She has the clear talent to make it to the end of the season, and could almost do so while gaining more fans along the way.
1. Adam Wakefield – While we think Adam can do more than country, you’re going to have a hard time telling us that someone with his talent level and background will be disliked by Blake’s country fans. This guy right now has “final episode” written all over him.
