ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 8 finale reportedly filming multiple endings
While we’ve felt more and more hopeful as of late that “Castle” will get a renewal for a ninth season (thank steady ratings and a complete collapse elsewhere on ABC as a reason for that), the reality still is that there’s a ton of uncertainty out there. Some people in the cast need new deals, and of course you also have to figure out if the network still thinks there is significant value in the franchise.
With all of these variables in mind, the following bit of news does not shock us in the slightest. Per TVLine, the series is in the process of making several different endings for its eighth season as a means for preparing for whatever the future is. They will have an ending if it turns out to be a season finale, and one if it turns out to be the end of the series. Hopefully, they’ll have their firm answer one way or another before we get around to the finale airing next month.
It does feel fairly clear at this point that we’re in the twilight years of the show, but things creatively have started to turn around now that Castle and Beckett are back together and the show is at least a little closer to its roots. We’d like to see it have at least one more year to have a proper farewell, and something that properly tributes the entire journey of the show. Having a series finale at this point would feel a little bit rushed, especially since so much time is going to be spent attending to LokSat.

We do not know, many shows have done multiple endings.A s9 with H/W is not for me.I would like Caskett to continue,if it does not then I got 7 seasons I will watch on DVD and s8 if it ends on a high note.
People move on with their careers and 8 seasons is not shabby.I just hate what they did in this season.
Give me the story and the team I am good.Give me the heart Caskett and I am great.

Well, if they get a renewal but stick with the current showrunners it could still be a disappointment.

The final episode is in production as I write. All the plots have been written and are being filmed. The cast and crew will be finished within the next fourteen days, what remains is the studio’s decision.

And Katic’s decision and Fillion’s decision.

“Especially since so much time will be spent attending to. Balderdash!! LokSat could have been attended to in any number of episodes after the first episode of the season. Vikram provided no new information episode after episode. LokSat could have been attended to in any number of these. It’s time to find another excuse otherwise you are telling us that you are totally unable to handle any long story line with which I agree. Besides the long story lines (including LokSat) have done nothing to grow the fan base. Contrary to growing the fan base they have literally destroyed. You are wise beyond expectation when you say that Castle will go back to a single stand alone case per episode in season 9 (if there is one).

Sadly W/H have never mastered the sophisticated railleries of seasons past, which was the heart and soul and uniqueness which endeared it to the fan base. 1.2 demo with 6.65million viewers this Monday is a far cry from the 2.4 demo and 12.62 million viewers of season 6.

So many fans want the show to return to it’s roots. Question is how do you make RC suave, sophisticated, extremely intelligent and fearless like he was in season one after he has morphed into a buffoon these past years.

To me this is the worst news ever. Confirms my fears SK is not returning and they are preparing an ending for a S9 renewal without her.

Vikki, I’m sorry but I do not understand the basis for your argument. The article indicated that the show is showing improvement now that Castle and Beckett are back together which would indicate that the number of viewers would grow or at least remain as it is now. To me this all indicates that both Castle and Beckett will be back for a season 9 (if there is one) unless they decide against signing new contracts for reasons not yet made known.

Just a personal thought but i believe SK came back S8 knowing this was her last season. So, if they renew she will not be there S9. They will film a nice Caskett end if cancelled, kill her off if renewed so Rick can go on without her.

If they both are not in a season 9 the show can not go on without out her or him. No spin offs, I could not stand Hayley taking Kates place PEROID.

I agree, but doubt ABC does
