‘The Walking Dead’ season 6 finale reaction: Show boss on Negan’s kill, the aftermath

twdTonight, “The Walking Dead” aired what was beyond the shadow of a doubt a violent episode … but also a super-polarizing one given that they did what feels in many ways like a cop-out and a ploy to keep people invested all summer. The show has killed someone, but is not letting you see just who that someone is until we get around to the seventh season.

While we cannot really give you much in the way of justification as to why this cliffhanger was put into action, we can at least give you a quote from Scott M. Gimple on “Talking Dead” that makes it really clear that this death will lead to a series of events that change almost everything moving forward.

“When we reveal who’s on the receiving end, that’s going to be the start of another story. The kickback effects from that [such as] what it makes everyone into, how they react, how the world changes for everyone [are] the next part of the story.”

Now, let’s just hope that the next phase of this story is something worthwhile, and doesn’t just rely on cheap gimmicks or cliffhangers for the sake of getting viewers “invested” when they already clearly are. This is one of the most visually-striking and technically-flawless series out there, and it really doesn’t need all of the twists that you see in a standard TV show. We like to think for the most part that this series really is a cut above.
