‘Shameless’ season 6, episode 12 (finale) spoilers: What to expect from Lip, Ian

In just a matter of 24 hours or so, “Shameless” is going to be ending its latest season on Showtime, and based on the sneak peeks that we’ve seen already, there are a pair of separate things that you can definitely expect. (Note: You can watch these clips on the show’s official YouTube channel, and they of course contain strong language.)

1. Debbie is concerned for Lip – One of the more meaningful stories this season could be the downward spiral of Lip, who has lost a lot of people he looked to as caring figures in his life in so many ways. First, it was Helene, and his relationship with another professor is also now broken. This is a guy who didn’t really have a proper parental figure for a good chunk of his life, so it is not a shocker that he is looking for guidance elsewhere.

When he doesn’t have that … well, Lip turns to drinking, and in this finale Debbie is going to be very concerned that he will end up like Frank. As funny as Frank may be sometimes, he is still a horribly tragic figure, a broken man at the center of a broken family.

2. Ian wants his job back – Ian wants to become an EMT again, and specifically is going to cite his mental illness as a way in which to do it. Will he actually succeed? That’s hard to answer at the moment, since there are so many different hoops that he will have to jump through. We would like to see him (and many other characters on this show) get a steady job, though, mostly because it would be a nice little shake-up for the show.
