NBC’s ‘The Voice’ video: Bryan Bautista and Malik Heard face off for Christina Aguilera
Can you believe that we’re almost at the Battle Rounds stage of “The Voice“? It’s funny because we’re covering the British version of the show, and they stretch on the Blind Auditions for as long as humanly possible. Here in America, they just handle the competition at a normal pace, and give you time to get to know some of the contestants rather than just having your forget about them quickly.
Now that we’ve said all of that, we still dislike the Battle Rounds as a concept because it puts people into boxes and not everyone sounds good in a duet. That’s just how it is. Yet, the one below between Bryan Bautista and Malik Heard is actually pretty amazing. The two parties are performing the classic “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World,” which has been done about a trillion times over the course of singing-show history. Here, both are genuinely good and bring a lot of style and swagger.
The guys are hoping to impress coach Christina Aguilera enough that she brings one of them to the Knockout Rounds, and we really don’t think that there is all that much to worry about here. This, at least to us, feels like one of those cases where whoever she doesn’t pick will be swooped up almost automatically by one of the other coaches waiting in the wings. These two guys each have some potential to go far, and both were popular this year in the auditions.
