‘Law & Order: SVU’ season 17, episode 17 reaction: Show boss on Benson shocker

Law & Order: SVU logoOn Wednesday night’s new episode of “Law & Order: SVU,” we saw the beginning of what effectively an epic two-parter regarding the Catholic church, a massive scandal, and also people suspected as being a part of a massive ring. When Barba found evidence that Tucker could be involved, that led to a stand-off with Benson over it. She defended him, but by the end of the episode he found himself stepping down, while Benson was eventually transferred to another unit.

Where in the world is Mariska Hargitay’s character going to go from here? In speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in a new post-show interview, executive producer Warren Leight teased up the following story with the following:

“We’ll see in episode 18, she moves into a little cubicle desk in community affairs. There’s a woman saying, ‘Oh my God, we’re all so excited to have you here. We can’t wait. We’re going to learn so much from you.’ She’s starstruck … There are all these ‘Policemen are your friend’ posters hanging on the wall. It appears to be [Benson’s] worst nightmare. It’s a little bit of a hat tip to Brooklyn Nine-Nine.”

This is going to be a huge struggle for Benson, but at the same time, it’s fairly easy to have at least some faith in her. Just take a look at her resume, what she’s done, and the people that she has helped. It’s easy to imagine this nightmare ending at some point in the reasonably near future.
