ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 8, episode 13 video: Rick enters ESL class!
There is something very funny about the sneak peek below for Monday night’s new episode of “Castle,” and admittedly to us a lot of the humor just comes from the sheer logic of it all (or lack thereof). After all, how is it that Rick can go undercover in a place like ESL class and not be recognized by anyone, including the teacher?
Sure, we imagine that you could argue that these are people who don’t really know English well enough to read his books, but given his success we also feel like they would be translated into other languages. Maybe this is just not meant to be the sort of thing we’re supposed to spend a lot of time thinking about, given that it will inevitably make our brain explode.
Anyhow, the sneak peek revolves around Castle acting like a French-Canadian guy hoping to understand English in order to get some clues, but unfortunately, let’s say that it is not going particularly well for him. For one, it’s pretty clear something is off here when he doesn’t speak French to someone from Senegal who tries to use the language with him. He has a quick response, but there’s only so long that can last!
As someone who has spent a good bit of time around French Canadians, we’ll say that at least Rick’s accent is decent. Like we’ve said in the past, we wonder if this is something that Nathan Fillion went to them and said he could do growing up in Canada. (Granted, he didn’t grow up anywhere near Quebec.)

Vikki, I agree with you and all the above comments ,that is why I DVR it and watch Blindspot. I will watch about 10 Minutes of Castle next day to see if we still are on fake breakup and frat boy humor, where all the supporting cast is so dumb they don’t realize the breakup. Just terrible writing.

your so right, the story telling this year is so bad. We know a lot about episode 13 and some about episode 14 (the firefly family reunion) and a little about episode 17 the magic lamp, but next to nothing about episodes 15 and 16. Why?

“Know English well enough to read his books”. Makes as much sense as Vikram’s secret lair in a “deserted” strip club that has all the usual utilities including wi-fi. Or Beckett trusting everyone except those who can help her the most. Or why she had to leave her bed with Castle to meet with Gates without telling him the purpose of the meeting. Or why Beckett thinks her being with Castle via the building next door will escape detection. One writer or the show runners do not assure that the next episode will have continuity with the last episode and make sense.
