NBC’s ‘The Voice’ video: Christina Aguilera hoping to break the ‘girl curse’
There are less than two weeks now between today and the start of “The Voice” season 10, and there is one thing that Christina Aguilera definitely wants to make clear at the moment: She thinks her team could actually be the one to win the show this time.
Ever since the beginning there’s been something that Aguilera calls the “girl curse” in her chat with Jimmy Fallon. For one reason or another, a woman has never been able to have one of their contestants win at the end of a season. She, Shakira, and Gwen Stefani have all tried at various points to have it happen, but they haven’t been able to land it. Why is that? It’s hard to say, but we think that some of it is due to just a couple of winner-caliber contestants picking other people, and we also think some of it has to do with coaches like Blake Shelton being so popular that he often lifts some of his own contestants to new heights.
If we were to label three contestants who inexplicably have not received the support from the public on teams with female coaches, they would be Chris Mann (Christina), Matthew Schuler (Christina), and most-recently Jeffery Austin (Gwen Stefani). The craziest thing is that none of these guys even finished in the top three on their season. Christina also had Jacquie Lee, but at least she finished second.
Ultimately, we’re not going to know whether or not Christina’s team can do it until we start to see them perform. Stay tuned…
