ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 8, episode 10 review: Did Castle create a kangaroo court?
We are now two episodes into what we would call the latest “Castle” experiment, and for the most part, we have one very quick reaction: Excitement. While these episodes may not be typical in the sense that our two leads are not together publicly, the show still found a way to be funny, dramatic, and refreshing for a show that tends to investigate murders the same way.
The big change-up in this episode was that the person previously-arrested for murder was on trial in Nina, and after realizing that it was possible that she was not guilty, after all, of murder. From here, Castle and Beckett, with of course some help from some old friends, had to figure out a way to ensure that she was set free. This took us down some interesting roads. We learned that she was having a secret relationship with a woman, that there was at one point $5 million that the victim had snatched, and also that Rick needed to get himself thrown into jail at one point to speak with Nina properly. This was one of many very funny moments in this episode, and Rick and Kate were even able to use their “separation” to their advantage.
In the end, the right culprit was caught, and more than that we are now a couple of steps closer to figuring out the role of attorney Caleb Brown in LokSat. He was Nina’s defender at the end of episode, and through that Beckett realized that he has a weakness that she and Vikram can start to exploit more as the story gets further along this season. She’s not telling Castle everything, but we’re ultimately okay with that. More than anything what we want to see is subtle progress to get the two fully on the same page. So long as the show remains this fun and of this quality, it’s hard to feel too down that the “Caskett” relationship is under wraps.
Now, Castle better hope that he never goes to court again after the near-mess he caused there. Grade: B+.

I liked this ep, the one big flaw is that Beckett is a manic obsessive , she knows it and so does Castle whose already called her out on that fact and that she sees no reason to correct it. And here again she’s not telling Rick all the truth, when she easily could, have, her obsession still comes first.

Correction. She’s not telling Castle ANYTHING. After promising in Mr. and Mrs. Castle she would. Now we are expected to believe that he’s OK with that. Just like we’re supposed to believe that now Ryan and Esposito are OK with Castle and Beckett seeing other people while still married to one another and not legally separated or divorced. Plot holes that big left hanging are distracting even though in other ways the show was a good one.
