‘Saturday Night Live’ preview: Melissa McCarthy, Taran Killam, and a silent Kanye West

Only Kanye West would draw so much attention for saying nothing in a new promo for “Saturday Night Live.”

The latest preview (see below) features the rapper alongside Melissa McCarthy and cast member Taran Killam, as the two try to do their best to promote what could be one of the biggest editions of the show ever. In it, Kanye seems to some to be rather disinterested, and doesn’t really say or do anything to suggest otherwise.

With this being said, are some out there making too big of a deal out of his silence? Definitely. There are so many musical guests out there who do and say nothing on these day-before promos that Kanye doing so is hardly a big deal. Also, there’s no real reason for him to say anything right now. He knows that most of the spotlight is going to be on his performances over the weekend, and that these only last a matter of seconds.

Do we know that West has a sense of humor. Sure, as he’s been on this show so many times over the years and even occasionally done some sketches. Show executive producer Lorne Michaels also strikes us as the sort of person who really has a no-nonsense policy when it comes to dealing with difficult people on the set of the show; if Kanye was impossible or protesting doing promos, do you really think he’d be asked back as many times as he has been?

This article is not really meant to be a defense of Kanye or of anything that he’s said or done over the past few weeks; our feeling is just that if you dislike him, there are plenty of other reasons to do so. Him staying silent on a largely ho-hum “SNL” promo should not even register.
