‘Saturday Night Live’ preview: Melissa McCarthy, Vanessa Bayer, and a rap battle

SNL -There’s a new episode of “Saturday Night Live” coming your way in the matter of a couple of days, so what better way to prepare for it than a rap battle? Okay, maybe that is a rhetorical question, but we do personally find the promo below to be incredibly funny.

What makes it better than the average promo for the show is the presence of Melissa McCarthy and cast member Vanessa Bayer, who embark on a surprisingly-silly journey to understand the lyrics of “Butterscotch Man,” a made-up Kanye West song that Melissa seems intent on believing is a real thing. She may not be improving the lyrics of the song as the video goes on, but she does a very good job pretending as though she is. The only thing that makes this even better is hearing an actual Butterscotch Man song in the closing seconds. We don’t actually think it is Kanye performing it, but even if it is Jay Pharoah as Kanye performing it, that is still good enough for us.

This weekend’s show certianly has the makings of a great one, given that McCarthy is hosting for the fourth time, and given that it’s been a couple of years since her last appearance, she is probably going to be bringing on some new and fresh ideas. Meanwhile, Kanye is always going to come up with something inventive, even if he is as polarizing a performer as always and seems to embrace that at this point in his career.
