‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’ highlights: Megyn Kelly on Donald Trump; Will Ferrell’s ‘animals’
As a whole, we’d say that “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” was a little bit of an uneven success on Sunday night, mostly because of the fact that nobody in New York seemed to really have that much of a clue as to what they were doing in the live format. It was awkward at times, and it really took Colbert, talented as he is, some time to get comfortable.
In a way, we wish almost that he had done some of the later stuff earlier in the show, since that might have helped him relax more into the live format with so many people watching from all over the world. You could see some of his nerves, and understandably so.
Will Ferrell, animal expert – This was one of our favorite bits of the whole show, mostly because Ferrell played on the fact that Colbert has yet to find what David Letterman had for many years in Jack Hanna: A guy famous for bringing exotic animals on the show, freaking out everyone around him. For Ferrell, he brought on what were a series of fairly domesticated animals like a kitten, a hamster, and at one point a duck, and tried to claim that they were somewhat more exotic than they appeared to be.
Megyn Kelly on Donald Trump – We were fairly curious to see how Kelly would handle this interview, mostly because she’s found herself in such an unusual position partially aligned with Colbert in a way. She was previously a much-mocked target on “The Colbert Report,” but some of Donald Trump’s comments about her have endeared her more to the mainstream. In this interview, Colbert gave her a chance to come up with her own passive-aggressive comments towards him, much in the way that he did to her on Twitter by calling her a “lightweight reporter” when he was clearly meaning to say something else.
