‘Shark Tank’ video: Can BearTek overcome unbearable investment?

Yes, we went right for it with that pun, didn’t we? We’re here to preview further Friday night’s “Shark Tank” episode, and for this article, we’re looking at a company in BearTek that does have a rather cool idea: Gloves that can also access Bluetooth and control some of your devices. The gloves are as comfortable and effective in the conditions as any other out there, but they give you added control over your surroundings if you’re on your motorcycle, out in cold weather, or so on. They can make life easier!

Here comes the problem: They aren’t making life easy with the Sharks courtesy of a $10 million valuation, which seems to us absolutely insane for what we consider to be smart-gloves. Maybe there are other integrations for this technology, but we’re not seeing it yet. Unless these guys just so happen to have enormous sales or a stellar plan for the future, they’re not going to get money at that value.

Can they negotiate still? It’s possible, but they have to show flexibility. We can go either way or whether or not they will get a deal. We do find the idea behind the product impressive, and as a result of that there will be some tech geeks out there who love it. However, is this something that really will sell in the mainstream? We see most people buying gloves for the look or the feel first and foremost, and not so much the bells and whistles.

Ultimately, we’ll have an answer on BearTek after Friday night’s new episode.
