‘Supergirl,’ ‘The Flash’ season 2 crossover actually happening; Grant Gustin visiting CBS show

Supergirl -It’s been rumored for a long time, and it’s finally happening: There will be some sort of crossover coming between “Supergirl” and “The Flash.” Specifically, Grant Gustin is going to be guest-starring as a certain speedster on the upcoming March 28 episode of the CBS show.

In a statement confirming the news, executive producers Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg had the following to say:

“We are so incredibly excited to announce something that we have dreamed of happening since we starting making Supergirl … We want to thank Grant Gustin for making the time to come visit (on top of his already immense workload) and all of the folks at CBS, The CW, Warner Bros. and DC for working this out.

“And finally, thanks to the fans and journalists who have kept asking for this to happen. It is our pleasure and hope to create an episode worthy of everyone’s enthusiasm and support.”

The big winner in this announcement is probably “Supergirl,” since we don’t get the sense that Melissa Benoist or anyone else is heading to “The Flash” right now and they will reap most of the ratings benefits from this. We don’t exactly expect a whole lot of references to the plot of “The Flash” in this episode, either, mostly because there may be fears about the crossover audience between the shows.

Still, this will probably be a lot of fun, provided that the writers have an interesting idea to get around the fact that Supergirl / Superman have never been mentioned before on “Arrow” or “The Flash,” even though Superman has been around for years in the “Supergirl” universe. It needs to at least make a little bit of sense why everyone was so shocked about meta-humans in Central City when they already knew such supernatural things were possible thanks to what was happening in National City.
