‘American Idol’ winner Scotty McCreery no longer with record label

Scotty -

We’ve spent so much time during this final season of “American Idol” talking about some of the achievements of the singers who have appeared on the show. Unfortunately, what we have now is a little bit of sad news: Scotty McCreery is no longer working with the Interscope arm Mercury Nashville after being with them since winning the tenth season.

Scotty’s victory at the time was pretty heralded, given that this was the first season featuring Jimmy Iovine of Interscope and there were all of these hopes to give the winners a chance at a big career, something that some other previous champions had struggled with in terms of support. Scotty did have multiple singles, with some at least getting some decent success on the charts; however, we wouldn’t say that he has had a breakout country hit in some time, either.

In a statement (per Taste of Country), McCreery had the following to say on moving forward:

“I enjoyed being on Mercury Nashville / Interscope and I appreciate all the great people who worked hard on my behalf while I was there … I am excited about what the future holds and the opportunities being presented to me.”

Ultimately, there are very few “American Idol” stars who are still connected with the label that they made a deal with following the show. Many of the older champs have moved on just because of success or creative differences, while many others were dropped. Nick Fradiani has been working on a debut album with Big Machine Records and even got a segment about it early this season; however, there’s no clear word on when it will drop.
