‘The Amazing Race 28’ spotlight: Will Zach and Rachel King make a little magic this season?

We’ve made it today to the final edition of our “Amazing Race 28” spotlight series, so is it fair to say that we’ve saved the best for last? If nothing else, we can definitely tell you that we’ve saved a personal favorite for it: Zach and Rachel King. We’d never heard of them before the season started, but we’ve gone on to watch some of their contributions to the internet and have been very entertained!

Will we be as entertained this season, and do these two have a shot at actually winning? That is what we’re excited to get into more below.

Relationship – Married couple (they haven’t been married for too long, so technically they are still newlyweds).

Claims to fame – Their primary claim to fame is Zach’s account on Vine, where his videos have more than a BILLION loops. Seriously. What makes them so particularly clever are some of Zach’s editing skills, which almost make him look like a wizard with all of his optical illusions. They’re super-clever, and different from what the majority of people use Vine for.

Strengths – We really like how the two explain their relationship in the video below, especially Rachel talking about how she is very meticulous and will read clues over and study to ensure that they do not get thrown off-course at any time. We know that they’re young and presumably fast enough to do well running to place to place, so what could make them stand out here is their love of the race and understanding of how it works. It’s about understanding strengths and weaknesses, strategy, and avoiding silly mistakes. The majority of teams go home for not being patient enough to ask directions, or failing to properly follow instructions.

Weaknesses – Is there a clear one? We’d say that neither one of them looks like an athletic beast, so maybe they’ll be a little slower than some others on the super-strength challenges. While many married / dating couples have done well over the years, we’ve also seen some struggle with the stakes of trying to manage that relationship in such a high-stress environment. They’ll have to be attuned to that if they want to avoid major conflicts along the way.

Prediction – We actually did save the best for last in terms of our projections, because we think that Zach & Rachel are going to win this whole thing. Like we said, strength will not always be their forte, but they’re smart and dynamic enough to really know how to do well on this show. Just look at Kelsey & Joey from last season or even the runner-ups in Justin & Diana; neither appeared on the surface like they would be the fastest / strongest team.

Also, we think that these two are an example of a team that really wants to go out there and win the money even more so than using the show for self-promotion. They’ll be focused, and that should carry them far.
