‘Top Chef: Last Chance Kitchen’ episode 7: Jason Stratton, Chad White’s beef brawl
If there is one thing that we really love about “Top Chef: Last Chance Kitchen” more so than anything else, it is that this is a show where redemption does matter! You want to show that you can learn from your mistakes, and come back to do something even better than you did previously.
For the latest edition of our aftershow, the challenge was very simple: Create a dish using … beef, and very little else. Specifically, you could only use your knives for a few minutes. This created a challenge for Chad White and the returning Jason Stratton, who had to think quickly and be very creative.
It’s funny in a way that this was a way to get redemption for the Beefsteak challenge, and either Chad or Jason probably would’ve at least finished at the top of that challenge making what they did here. What Chad pulled off was awesome, ripping the cheeks, eyes, and other parts of the cow off and then making a chili using parts of them. His plate looked incredible, and apparently the only problem was the cook on the cheek. Meanwhile, Jason went slightly more traditional, but still opted for a very ambitious cut of rib-eye with the bone still on it. It was huge, flavorful, and more than delicious.
We’re bummed for Chad, since you can make a case that his bravery and guts this week made him worthy of advancing just like he was worthy of staying in over Isaac on the proper show for making food that was better-received in terms of taste. However, in this case the taste was slightly better for Jason, and since they were both ambitious, he won! We’re not sure he can run the table here just yet, but he’s got a good streak going now of two wins.
