‘NCIS’ season 13 finale will feature new character for season 14

NCIS -It was some time ago that it was first known that “NCIS” is looking to introduce two new characters for the upcoming season 14, with one of the primary reasons being that they will have to replace the departing Michael Weatherly. (For the record, we don’t know if anyone else is leaving.)

What we do have now, though, is some news about one of the new characters who should be around by the season 13 finale. Per TVLine, the show is looking to cast Tess, a three-time divorcee in her late thirties who can be very nurturing when she needs to be. She is an FBI Special Agent who comes from a counter-terrorism unit in New York City, so she has plenty of experience. She’s both tender and tough, and should make a fun addition to the team depending on who the producers find for the role.

Given that we are losing Weatherly at the end of the season, we feel like it’d be smart for CBS to try to book someone for this role who is at least reasonably well-known to TV viewers. This way, you can build buzz around a show in its 14th season (that’s not always easy to do), and you also give longtime fans who are upset about Michael leaving some incentive to keep on watching. One way to cast is look at some shows that are ending, or maybe check out some people who haven’t had a series-regular gig over the past couple of seasons, but who are well loved in TV land for their past work.

Ultimately, it’s smart to introduce them at the end of the season, given that this gives us something to look forward to in season 14 if the character turns out to be great.
