‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 12 spoilers: Martin Henderson rules out one Riggs – Owen possibility

What is the nature of the beef between Owen Hunt and Nathan Riggs on “Grey’s Anatomy“? That for now remains one of the series’ greatest mysteries, but it is one that could be expounded upon in the weeks following the show’s February 11 return. We do personally love that they found a way to introduce Riggs that also gives Owen a further story to tell, especially with a character like his sister involved. We know almost nothing about her, but yet we still have this innate curiosity to want to figure out why whatever happened with her has thrown such a wrench into the relationship between two men.

But what if Riggs actually is Owen’s sister? It’s a theory that has been out there, especially with the transgender movement making so many headlines and this show being socially-conscious. While there are still many other theories out there, we can rule this one out thanks to Martin Henderson’s comments to TVLine:

“While it would be nice to have the opportunity to play such complexity on network TV, I sadly doubt it will be as controversial or topical as that.”

Whatever the secret is, rest assured that it will probably lead to some really great drama for these characters, and in turn great scripts for both Henderson and Kevin McKidd. We do hope that they figure things out at some point by the end of this season, but we’ll just have to wait and see if they do.
