What a ‘Heroes: Reborn’ season 2 could have been before cancellation

LogoTonight marks the finale of “Heroes: Reborn” on NBC, and a chance to at least see what sort of ending Tim Kring came up with for the epic miniseries. That’s a cause for celebration for some fans.

Was there ever going to be a season 2? That’s a complicated question with a complicated answer. Kring and NBC had always suggested that the revival was meant to be a close-ended story, but at the same time, we have a hard time thinking that this could or would be the case in the event the ratings were great. Given the network’s Thursday-night woes over the years, it would have been smart to try and keep the lineup as solid as possible.

Had there been a second season, what we would’ve liked to see is something of an anthology, where every year you featured some new characters and then maybe a few returning faces here and there. It would’ve been great to see some original “Heroes” characters back in a more permanent capacity, or maybe see a few new ones who did not turn up in “Reborn” at all. The show had many great people who for one reason or another, just were not able to turn up during the first season of the show.

Unfortunately, this just was not meant to be this time around. Maybe it’s possible in theory that some characters are revisited in some form down the road, but it’s hard to see it on NBC after the series has been given two different chances to get it done.
