Tonight is the last “American Idol” audition show potentially ever, and that’s a crazy thing to imagine given how long the show has been on the air. You know that they’re probably saving some good people for their final show, and maybe Avalon Young (who was named after a song, and has lyrics tattooed on her arm) is going to be the sort of person who they have a whole lot of faith in moving forward.
Below, you can see her audition to the judges as she covers the Beyonce hit “XO.” This is actually more similar to John Mayer’s version of the song than Beyonce’s, and she does some really nice things with it. Her voice is a little softer than some of the other people who have made it to the next round, but we like that she seems to be relatively pop-oriented in a show that has often drifted off more into particular genres (there are a billion or so country singers this year).
One other thing that we actually like here is that Avalon is someone we have not actually heard before now. Wednesday night’s show had some talent in it, but we also had a ton of people with talent-show experience whether it be a former “America’s Got Talent” artist, someone who was a part of “The Voice” a few years back, a former “Glee Project” contestant who didn’t make it past the auditions this time, and also of course the return of Emily Brooke and Adam Lasher after previously appearing on the show. Take a look at our episode review here.
We’re going to have some other “American Idol” coverage later today, so be on the lookout for it!
