‘American Idol 15’ review: Jenna Renae of ‘America’s Got Talent,’ Adam Lasher, Emily Brooke try out

American Idol -American Idol 15” started off on Wednesday night with a little bit of a family connection; we had Shi Scott’s sister try out after she made it fairly far this past season. To think, she was far from the only memorable contestant to turn up over the course of the hour.

We’re going to be updating this review as time goes on, so be sure to refresh this page to get more of our take on the singers as time goes on!

Miranda “Poh” Scott – Apparently it is a tradition in the Scott family to have unusual nicknames. Miranda’s pretty talented, despite setting herself up as not being that great of a singer. The interesting thing was that after this audition Shi have been more emotional here than she was at any point on her own season.

Amelia Eisenhauer – We dig her personality, and the fact that she has a katana probably means that she’s one of our fellow Japan geeks out there. She’s one of the few 15-year olds who really doesn’t look or perform like she is still a teenager, and that probably comes from being in a family band.

Joy Love – She may be the biggest personality we’ve heard on the show this season, and we’re glad to see that she is making it through to the next round. We’re not sure she has another level other than 11 out of 10, but she’s certainly good enough now.

MacKenzie Bourg – You know him from “The Voice,” and here he gave what was a really cool, component medley of all three of the judges’ songs. We think that he does have serious potential, and with that built-in fan base, he could be a beast in the live shows.

Jenna Renae – She is just from this past season of “America’s Got Talent,” so it’s almost like the Nick Fradiani effect all over again. She’s got a great voice, some artistry, and could do so much better on this show. It’s more suited for her.

Mario Bonds – He didn’t get through, but this is interesting given that it’s not the first time Mario’s been on reality TV. Remember him from “The Glee Project”?

Adam Lasher – It was a brief appearance, but enough of a reminder of how good this guy is.

Emily Brooke – She’s back from last season, and really brought it with a great, energetic number that was ironically from former “The Voice” contestant RaeLynn. The show really shouldn’t take too much credit for anything here, though; she is the one who worked hard and got herself back to where she needed to be.
