‘Arrow’ season 4 spoilers: Will the Vixen appearance be a one-off?

Earlier this season on “Arrow,” we got a chance to see something that many a Hellblazer out there was excited for: An appearance from Matt Ryan as John Constantine. This character is still beloved, and while there is no news on a potential series revival right now, it was nice to see that he does have some history with Oliver Queen and is canon to this show.

When it comes to the appearance of Megalyn E.K. as Vixen, this is a slightly different situation. We already knew she was canon because of the CW Seed animated series, but an upcoming episode will mark her first live-action appearance as the character. Is this constructed to be similar in some ways to the Constantine appearance? Judging from what executive producer Wendy Mericle said in an interview with TVLine, it certainly seems that way:

“It will be a standalone [appearance], yes. We really needed someone to come in and give Oliver some help with magic. One of the things we’ve been exploring this season is ‘How does Oliver deal with magic, specifically with Damien?,’ and she comes in for a very high-stakes, amazing episode. She’s done a great job [voicing] the cartoon on CW Seed and she’s a tremendous actor in her own right. We’re really excited.”

Our approach on these is always that there is still hope for something more in the future. For example, why not give us more Constantine if Ryan is available for another episode in the future, and there is a place for him in the story? These characters may never have a huge presence, but we’re looking forward to seeing them whenever we can.
