‘American Idol 15’: Jennifer Lopez takes the high road after Clay Aiken comments

American Idol -It doesn’t sound like Jennifer Lopez is taking Clay Aiken’s recent digs at “American Idol’s” final season too hard.

While on the red carpet for the Golden Globes last night, the multi-faceted performer was asked about some of the season 2 star’s recent tweets slamming the show, where he said (upon watching it for the first time in years) that it was boring and Simon Cowell was one of the only reasons it was a success in the first place. Speaking to “Entertainment Tonight,” J.Lo took the high road rather than trying to stoke the fire of any potential controversy:

“Aw, that’s too bad. He’s on it this year … Well, everybody’s entitled to their own opinion.”

To be fair, Aiken himself had already thrown some water on the story by clarifying his comments after the fact, saying that he only wants the best for the show after his time on it and doesn’t want to see it go out on what he considers to be a less-than-stellar note.

We’ll see if the singing show can do something to win him back this coming week, where the auditions are going to continue. We don’t think that there’s going to be much change, though, largely because the show is what it is now. Back in the Cowell days the producers took more pleasure in showing bad auditions so that Simon could ridicule them; they don’t really show many duds these days, and when they do the judges are not too mean to them. There’s a lot more of a kid-gloves effect going on because opinions on cruelty on reality TV have changed drastically over the years.
