ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 5 spoilers: Be prepared for a (lengthy) time jump

Just in case you were wondering how the upcoming fifth season of “Scandal” will resume on February 11, we now have some answers … and they include taking a rather lengthy leap forward in time. How far are we talking? Think along the lines of six months. That is enough time to move forward to next chapter of these characters’ lives, and to not just dwell on the immediate aftermath of Olivia and Fitz’s split, her abortion, and so much more.

Speaking per Entertainment Weekly, Tony Goldwyn had the following to say about where you are going to see some of these characters on the show moving forward:

“Everybody has evolved into the next phase of their lives … Fitz is unfortunately alone without Mellie [Bellamy Young], without Olivia, and sort of without Cyrus [Jeff Perry] in the sense that the trust between Cyrus and Fitz is broken. Cyrus is still working for him, but it’s a troubled situation, so Abby [Darby Stanchfield] is taking up that slack in terms of who he leans on, but Fitz is very much alone — the guy alone on the top of the hill.”

What we wonder now is whether or not there is a way for Fitz to figure all of this out, or if the passion that he has for Olivia can ever be fully realized, or if these two people in particular are far too addicted to carnage for anything else to ever happen. It certainly feels like anything between the two of them will be on the backburner for at least a little while, but we’ll have a chance to see some more of that in the future.
