‘The Voice UK’ preview: See Paloma Faith, Ricky Wilson, will.i.am, and Boy George’s opening performance!

Voice UK -

No matter what version of “The Voice” you are talking about, there is always one tradition that shines through: The first episode beginning with some sort of performance featuring all of the coaches onstage together.

For the British version, these have always been especially cheesy, mostly because you are mashing up people who would have no business being in one another’s songs otherwise. For example, will.i.am is a very different artist and performer than someone like newcomer to the show Boy George. It’s hard to make this into something you’ll really remember when you are limited to the set of the show; we almost wish that they all got to pre-tape their opening performance as a part of some elaborate music video so that they could all have even more opportunities to shine in it. Maybe it’s a budget thing.

Anyhow, tomorrow on BBC One the coaches will all be coming together to find the best voice in Britain for at least one last time on the BBC; following this season the show is jumping over to ITV, which puts its home network this year in a strange position. Is there really going to be that much of an effort made to ensure that this season is awesome when the BBC knows that it will be on a competitor next season? It’s one of the weirdest situations we can think of, since typically a show doesn’t know of a future move for a full year before it actually happens.
