The second night of “American Idol” auditions are coming to Fox on Thursday, and that means (at least hopefully) more opportunities to see some contestants perform who have a genuine chance at making it through to the live shows.
Is Olivia Rox one of them? We don’t know, and we don’t really care to know in advance. (What’s with the wide-spread culture this season of people thinking that everyone wants to know spoilers?) What we do know is that like Michelle Marie in the premiere, this is one of those people that the show really seems to enjoy having on their final season: Someone who has watched the show since they were a child, and is now attempting to make it in their own right. That’s the interesting thing about the timing of ending this now: There are contestants auditioning who don’t even remember when the first seasons aired; it’s a shame the show didn’t make it long enough so that you could have the first contestants try out who were younger than the show, since you know they would’ve loved that.
Olivia has some maturity in her voice despite her young age, and while her audition to “When I Was Your Man” could use a little more melody, she shows off a lot of depth and to us, it’s all but guaranteed she gets a golden ticket. She deserves one!
Now that we’ve said this, why not show us the rest of the audition, Fox? We have a hard time believing that not showing the rest of this audition is making or breaking some people as they decide whether or not they want to watch tonight.
