‘Chicago Med’ episode 6 preview: Moving beyond the crossover

It is interesting to pause and consider for a moment that when it comes to “Chicago Med,” we are still at the very early portion of the season. There are still more than a dozen stories to go this time around, and that includes next week’s rather-eventful episode “Bound.”

In the event you have not seen the synopsis for this hour yet, you can do so below:

“Two airplane stowaways are brought into the hospital after suffering major injuries from the travel, prompting Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) to receive a visit from the Department of Homeland Security regarding the undocumented immigrants. Cornelius Rhodes (guest star DW Moffett), the wealthy father of Dr. Connor Rhodes (Colin Donnell), is honored after making a big donation to the hospital for a new psych ward, forcing dark family secrets to the surface. Dr. Natalie Manning’s (Torrey De Vitto) big day arrives and Dr. Will Halstead’s (Nick Gehlfuss) good intentions to help are misconstrued by her mother-in-law, Helen (guest star Annie Potts). Meanwhile, Dr. Sarah Reese (Rachel DiPillo) asks Dr. Charles (Oliver Platt) for advice on how to deliver heartbreaking news to a young boy while also warning his family about the possibility that their other son may also have the same life-threatening disease.”

One of the things we appreciate most about this episode on the surface is that, at least seemingly, it is getting us back on track. One of the flaws that we see in doing the crossover episode so early is simply a matter of not knowing everyone yet. These matters always take time, and if you’re not too familiar with a particular cast of characters yet, do you care as much seeing them interact with people from other shows?
