‘The Voice UK’ season 5: will.i.am has high praise for Paloma Faith

Voice UK -

The upcoming fifth season of “The Voice” UK will not be premiering on BBC One until we get around to Saturday, January 9, but that is not stopping the show’s longest-tenured coach in will.i.am from pouring on the praise for newcomer Paloma Faith.

Speaking in a new interview with OK! Magazine, Will called Faith the best female coach in the show’s history, while adding the following:

“Paloma has the chops and and the fire of Jessie J. She’s sweet like Kylie Minogue and has the energy of Rita Ora, but then she has this imagination and dimension that’s deep, deep deep, only Paloma can bring that.”

Now, will this help Paloma to accomplish a fate that has not yet been done on either the British or American version of the show? It’s a bit of a crazy statistic, but through nine seasons in America and four in Britain, a woman coach has yet to have their act win. There are several occasions when they finished in second, but to many second and third are more or less the same thing.

Will is ultimately smart to frame part of his praise of Faith through the lens of entertainment, mostly because that’s what we know with this show and therefore what we look for more so than anything else. We don’t see contestants being coaches away from the camera in anything other than packages, so it’s hard to gauge who does a great job with that. All we hope for is that they do something to stand out and make themselves memorable week in and week out.
