CarterMatt Awards 2015 results: ‘The Voice’ alum Sawyer Fredericks runs away with Reality Star
One thing that was interesting in looking at the results for the CarterMatt Awards this year is just how there was so little parity in many of the categories. While we had more than a million cumulative votes cast, there were also many occasions where one nominee got a commanding lead early, and then ran away with the title in the end.
This happened with Sawyer Fredericks, who easily won Best Reality Star for 2015.
Why was Sawyer the champ by such a wide margin? It stems from a number of different things, but starts first and foremost from his time on “The Voice.” Similar in some ways to this poll, he was a favorite almost from the beginning of his season, and consistently gave his fans more and more reasons to vote for him. He had a great voice and a unique sense of artistry, but to go along with that he also had a remarkable sense of humility for a teenager on one of the most-popular shows on TV. It would have been easy to let the fame and success change his personality, but it didn’t.
Since the show, he has kept his fan base strong with performances at various shows to go along with an EP he released earlier this fall on iTunes. The challenge for any reality TV is staying relevant once the show stops, but Sawyer is starting to figure that out.
As for who Sawyer beat out, the second-place finisher was “Survivor” alum Kelley Wentworth, who had an excellent season in Cambodia but just couldn’t muster the same level of fan support.
