ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 5: Scott Foley not exactly hopeful on Jake, Olivia’s future?

Is there a chance for Jake and Olivia to figure something out on “Scandal” in the future? You have to answer that question with a “yes,” but the reality here is that it doesn’t seem like this is something that Jake is dying to have in his life anytime soon. In case you’re wondering why, all you have to do is look at the history of these characters this season.

Speaking to TVLine, Scott Foley makes it clear that he personally believes that the future is bleak for his character and Kerry Washington’s moving forward, and he specifically cites as a reason her decision to get Rowan out of prison and what then happened to Jake’s wife:

“I think [he may be done because] because two episodes ago, where Jake found out that Olivia was the one who let Rowan out [of prison]… he had been very patient. He said, “You choose Fitz, you love him,” and she didn’t say, “No, I want to choose you.” He had tried to be the good friend throughout her ridiculous ponderings and questions about “Should I marry Fitz?,” but once he found out that she let Rowan out and Rowan then killed his wife, I think he was done.”

We are interested to see what could come next for Jake without having an Olivia romance in his life, mostly because it opens up so many different storytelling possibilities than he would have otherwise. While some of the stories regarding the love triangle were interesting, they’ve run their course. We’re still not even sure that there can be anything left for Olivia and Fitz after everything that they’ve been through.
