‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ season 8, episode 9 review: Kenya Moore’s past; Kandi Burruss’ future

RHOA -

Every now and then “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” delivers on a story that we like to think means at least something, and for the time being this is what we like to think we’re getting when it comes to Kenya Moore sitting down with her father. While it would be very easy to be cynical and claim this entire discussion was her way of milking some TV time, we want to think that the two got maybe a little bit of healing down when it comes to her past. Kenya seems to be a bit on a healing tour these days (she could be seeing her mother soon), which we’ll take any day over her arguing with Porsha Williams.

Speaking of Porsha, she certainly had herself a banner episode being all ridiculous at a red-carpet event, while at the same time continuing to be involved with an extended argument with Kandi Burruss that really doesn’t concern her all that much. Our feeling is that this started with Kandi and Phaedra Parks, and it should end there. Sure, Todd’s got some beef with Phaedra too, but now we’ve got Kandi’s entourage and Porsha and so many other people mixed up in here that it’s a mess, and not a fun one.

While Don Juan was mildly entertaining last week, we don’t find anyone really in Team Kandi to be consistently watchable moving on…

We had a lot of family time in this episode, which is sweet but also still boring. Hey, look! Kim Fields is still a part of the show! She needs to be a little more of a fish out of water to really work as a cast member, though we also don’t want to see thrown down in Miami again.

We’d say that overall, this episode was a mixed bag. Cynthia Bailey’s “party” seemed more like an excuse to cause drama, and while our heart goes out to Kenya over her family issues, we’d also say that there may be only one or two more episodes we can take of it for a while. Episode grade: B-.
