Miss Universe 2015: Donald Trump on Steve Harvey, Ariadna Gutierrez, Pia Wurtzbach drama

Miss Universe -Even though Donald Trump is no longer a part of the Miss Universe organization, did you really think that he was going to sit idly by and watch a chance for easy publicity flutter away?

Speaking on “The Today Show” this morning, the GOP Presidential candidate made it clear that host Steve Harvey accidentally declaring Ariadna Gutierrez the winner over Pia Wurtzbach “would have never happened” were he still involved in the pageant. (He sold the organization to WME/IMG earlier this year after NBC dropped the event following some of his comments.) We’re not entirely sure how Trump could have single-handedly kept Harvey from making what was an honest, human mistake … but okay. After seeing the card that had the results written on it, we think he really just misspoke, and once the words came out of his mouth it was extremely hard to walk it back.

Despite these comments, Trump also praised Harvey as a “great guy,” and suggested that they make Gutierrez a “co-winner” to make up for what happened:

“I would recommend that they have a beautiful ceremony, which is good for the brand and good for Miss Universe, and do a co-winner.”

As much as our heart goes out for Gutierrez and some of the embarrassment she may have suffered in that moment, are you really wanting to reward someone for someone else’s mistake? Doesn’t that eliminate the purpose somewhat?

Anyway, Trump’s opinions at this point are merely that, as it doesn’t seem like the pageant is going to second-guess any decision that they have made in the past 12 hours.
