‘Sherlock’ season 4: Benedict Cumberbatch still interested in playing part long-term
For some time, Benedict Cumberbatch has insisted that he loves the format of the BBC’s “Sherlock,” and the fact that he can come back every couple of years to make some more episodes. There’s no locking him or Martin Freeman to a schedule, just as there is no mandate from the network to make so many installments every time.
So does this sentiment hold firm the more that his career continues to rise? With roles coming up in “Doctor Strange” and many other feature films, it would be understandable if he just didn’t want to bother with the show anymore. However, he tells the Radio Times that he at present is very much interested in sticking with the show through thick and thin:
“Pretty determined. I’m still enjoying it. We’ll see how the next series goes, but I’d love to keep ageing with him … Martin and I started this relatively young compared to a lot of Holmes and Watsons, so why not?”
This is the great things: The story of Holmes and Watson never really ends. We could see them leave for even a longer period of time than two years, and still come back and do more in the future. Plus, we feel like the demand would never dissipate too much given the love that is out there for the show now, the fact that it is not being overexposed, and that the property is one of the richest in not just all of Britain, but really the entire world.
