‘Shark Tank’ video: LovePop looks to spread the joy through cards

LovePop -Is there value in LovePop as a “Shark Tank” success story? We’re not sure we call the business a slam-dunk just yet, but there’s serious potential based on what we’re seeing not just of the company in the sneak peek below, but also the brand messaging.

Impersonal. That’s a word that gets used a great deal this days, and for good reason. People spend most of their time on a smartphone, at their computer, or watching TV. Communication and tangible objects are becoming a lost art. LovePop can at least help with the latter, given that they are a greeting-card company that specializes in crafting beautiful, intricate cards that contain a pop-up surprise. The way the pitch is constructed here is really rather smart, since it puts the emphasis on how this is something that will really illicit a reaction from the recipient. It’s almost counterculture in a way, which is not something that you tend to think of with greeting cards.

As for whether or not they’ll get a deal, we’re feeling pretty optimistic on this one provided that they have their business together properly. While greeting cards are a commodity, everyone buys them, and sometimes just putting that extra minute or two in to find the right card makes all the difference. We also actually thought that the cards would be more expensive than starting at around $8, so for the craftsmanship we think that it’s worth it.

The only downside we can think of is that there are plenty of other companies out there who are already doing this, and they really have to sell the Sharks on their design. Personally, we think that they will, and this is one of the better overall products that has been featured so far this season.
