‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 9 spoilers: Sheldon, Amy, and ‘Star Wars’

Big Bang -At this point, you’ve probably heard more about the winter finale of “The Big Bang Theory” airing on December 17 than ultimately any upcoming episode of the show ever, and there’s one real reason for that: Amy and Sheldon finally sleeping together. CBS made the executive decision here that rather than having a bunch of little set spoilers floating around on the internet about the episode, they would just announce it in advance. It’s a way to bring more attention to the show, especially given the fact that these two characters are going to have that moment in an episode also themed around the arrival of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” in theater.

“The Opening Night Excitation” is the title for this episode, and you can see the just-released synopsis below:

“After more than five years of dating, Sheldon and Amy spend their first night together. Also, Leonard, Wolowitz, and Koothrappali must decide who will take their extra Star Wars movie ticket.”

Wait, did Sheldon decide to actually stay the night with Amy over going to see “Star Wars”? If the answer to that ends up being “yes,” than we may have a situation here that is even more stunning / dramatic than we first realized. That’s a big sacrifice for Sheldon as a character, and it would show a real measure of character growth. We’ve been somewhat critical so far of the Sheldon / Amy breakup, but mostly because we don’t think Sheldon has put in all of the necessary legwork to win her back just yet.
